Safeguarding Statement

Our commitment

Almost everyone who learns on Blank Academy is a child. Keeping them safe comes before everything else we do, including growing the business. This page explains, plainly, what we do and what we ask of parents and tutors.

How tutors join the platform

  • Every tutor applies individually and is reviewed by our team before they can appear on the platform or contact any family.
  • We verify the qualifications and experience they claim, QTS status, university, examiner roles, and take up references.
  • Tutors agree to our Tutor Terms, which include specific safeguarding obligations, and can be removed from the platform for breaching them.

How the platform is built for safety

  • Everything stays on the platform. Lessons happen in our own lesson rooms and messages go through our messaging system. Tutors are not permitted to contact students privately, by phone, personal email, social media or any other channel.
  • Messages can be seen. Our team can review conversations for safeguarding and moderation, and parents can see their children's activity from their own dashboard.
  • Parents stay in control. Parents decide whether their child can book lessons themselves, and can see bookings, homework and lesson reports.
  • Lessons are not recorded, and lesson rooms only unlock shortly before the scheduled lesson.

What we ask of parents

  • Where practical, have younger children take lessons somewhere you can drop in, a kitchen table beats a closed bedroom door.
  • Keep communication with tutors on the platform, and be wary of anyone who suggests moving off it. That is against our rules, and we want to know about it.
  • Talk to your child about the lesson from time to time. You know them best; if something feels off, tell us.

Raising a concern

If anything worries you, something said in a lesson or message, however small it seems, email hello@blankacademy.co.uk with "Safeguarding" in the subject line. Concerns go straight to the platform's management, are treated confidentially, and are acted on quickly: we can suspend a tutor's access immediately while we look into something.

If you believe a child is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999 first. You can also contact the NSPCC helpline on 0808 800 5000 for advice at any time.
